Beware of Trump Claiming He Wants To "Protect You" In 2025 While He Rips Away More Rights
Guess what, Trump will use anti abortionists' favorite tactic - 'protecting' you- to do more to turn women into 2nd class citizens.
Remember when Donald Trump declared just weeks ago during his presidential campaign that he was going to be the “protector” of women “whether the women like it or not”.
When you heard him say that did you feel a little throw up in your throat like I did?
The convicted sexual abuser of E Jean Carroll and the president who appointed the three the Supreme Court judges who overturned Roe V Wade and then bragged about ’killing it” - that guy was going to be “the protector” of women?
The protector of us?
It was infuriating, but it was also an insidious choice of words that he chose to deliberately put half of the population back in their ‘place’ as if women were children, who needed protection from all the dangers of the world that they couldn’t possibly shield themselves from.
Trump, Republican politicians and anti abortionists have excelled at using the traditional myth that women are the ‘weaker sex’, as a tactic to try to compel them back into being second class citizens all over again.
After all, women only got the vote in 1920. Only legally won the right to apply and get home mortgages and credit cards in 1974 and it only became illegal to fire women if they got pregnant in 1978.
Making abortions - which have given women the freedom to decide whether and when they’ll be mothers - as difficult as possible, has been a great place for Republican politicians to start putting women back in their ‘place.’
And in order to do that, they have always used the justification that they are “protecting” women and their “health”.
Yea, like women couldn’t decide these things for themselves.
Spurred on by zealous anti abortion activists GOP lawmakers excelled at “protecting” their ‘little women’ in Red states when Roe V Wade was still the law of the land.
They couldn’t outright ban abortion but they sure could make providing and receiving surgical abortions - a clinically proven safe procedure - as onerous as possible.
Under the pretext of protecting “women’s health” they passed all kinds of unnecessary laws, like demanding that abortion clinics comply with detailed regulations that forced them to spend millions, essentially become surgical centers.
Then there were the Republican politician - imposed 24, 48 and 72 hour waiting periods for women who needed abortions. They were forced to wait all that time between an initial visit to an abortion provider and then the actual procedure.
To add to the abortion deterrence Republican lawmakers compelled women to sign a form attesting that they weren’t being “coerced into” an abortion.
As if.
In some states abortion patients were legally forced to watch a misleading video of a fetus being aborted. And in most of the restrictive states women were required to listen to a litany of false or misleading information about the risks of abortion including becoming infertile or being struck down by breast cancer
Let’s get real - none of these hurdles intentionally placed in front of women who wanted abortions was actually about “protecting” us from making a decision that was harmful to us.
It was only about ‘controlling us’ and our decision - making.
To put this in perspective, can you think of one medical procedure that men undergo that requires waiting periods, scary videos and having to listen to a list of highly exaggerated risks?
In order to have their health “protected”.
Vasectomies? Hair plug transplants? Chest pec implants?
No, no and nope!
Now, I’m warning you before the end of the year and with less than 30 days before Trump’s inauguration, that you’re going to hear an onslaught of ‘concern’ about protecting women’s “health” coming up under his regime.
First , it’s going to be about the supposed ‘danger’ of the abortion pill, mifepristone, so RFK Jr, as health and Human Services Secretary, can direct his FDA ( Food and Drug Administration ) to pull the pill from the market, just like Project 2025 instructs.
Suddenly, the drug that the FDA approved in 2000 and that is safely used in 96 countries around the world and is safer than penicillin and Viagra, will under Trump just have to be banned from use in order to “protect” women and our ‘health.’
Twenty GOP Senators led by Ted Cruz and Iowa’s Joni Ernst have already been on the case sending a letter to the FDA calling mifepristone “ highly dangerous” and “risky” and demanding that it be removed from the market to “protect” “vulnerable women and children.”
Oh, the children that the Senators claim to be protecting are the 3.7 million “preborn lives” that were prevented since 3.7 million women in the U.S . have actually used mifepristone safely between 2000 and 2018.
Now, this letter was sent in 2020 so the “protecting” defenseless’ women argument to end access to the abortion pill , has been around for several years.
And to give you an idea of how the Republican senators and anti abortion activists are able to make claims that mifepristone medication abortions aren’t safe , they cite a study conducted by James Studnicki, who is a VP at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, an anti abortion non- profit infamous as a font of mis and disinformation about abortion.
But guess what, the very study cited by the senators which was also used in the case in which Texas anti abortion Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, temporarily issued an injunction against the use of mifepristone - was later retracted by its academic publisher because of “unreliable findings.”
Womp, Womp.
So, the anti abortionists trying to justify “protecting” us, misrepresented the data they used to smear the safety of the abortion pill!
To give you a perspective on this “protector” of women’s “health”, the Charlotte Lozier Institute is the ‘research’ arm of the Susan B. Anthony Pro Life America organization, which is a HUGE donor to Trump and other anti abortion Republican candidates. It donated $52 million to Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign.
Charlotte Lozier’s medical director is Dr Ingrid Skop, who has written that even in “life threatening situations, abortion is rarely, if ever, necessary.”
This very same doctor who has dedicated her career to ending abortion access, was appointed to the Texas Maternal Mortality Review Committee. The same one that just announced it won’t be reviewing the pregnancy -related deaths in the state in 2022 and 2023 after the state’s extreme abortion ban went into affect.
And that’s despite that fact that the rates of Texas women dying from pregnancy have soared 56% since the ban and three specific women have died from lack of timely miscarriage care!
So guess who’s not actually “protecting” women and our “health” despite all their claims that they care about women?
Trump, Republican lawmakers and anti abortion zealots like Dr. Ingrid Skop!
This “protector” B.S. is all a sham and it’s being used to take away women’s freedoms so they can no longer be equal to men.
Now, final warning.
The campaign to rob women of equal status won’t end with access to abortion and contraception. There appear to be big next steps planned.
There’s no way that it’s a coincidence that Trump has selected Fox News weekend host and serial disrespector of women, Pete Hegseth as his nominee for Defense Secretary.
Hegseth wants the 3,800 female military members removed from their combat positions, including 151 women who have graduated from the Army’s “grueling” Ranger school.
"It hasn't made us more effective, hasn't made us more lethal, has made fighting more complicated," Hegseth claimed about women in combat on a recent appearance on "The Shawn Ryan Show".
What a bogus insult to those 3,800 women who have been risking their lives to serve our country which Hegseth - a veteran of the National Guard himself - should have respect for.
Trump’s pick for Defense Secretary also baselessly asserts that women in combat cause “complications” and in his new book, The War on Warriors”, claims - get this - that “America’s white sons and daughters” are walking away from the military because of “woke” ideology that is too “effeminate” and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion to the country’s detriment”
In real life, the truly serious problem for the 231,741 active duty female military members - 17.3% of the active duty force - is that if combat roles are closed off to them, it means their opportunities to be promoted to the highest level positions in the military, are also cut off.
That means - Trump and Hegseth will make women second class military members!
On purpose.
And guess what, Hegseth’s excuse for relegating women in the military out of combat duty is that “men in those positions are more capable” and women are “life-givers, not life-takers.”
In other words, we’re the ‘weaker’ sex and need to be protected.
Not, be the “protectors.
Like I said - watch out for Trump and Republicans claiming they’r going to ‘protect” you.
"I'm going to say something politically incorrect that is perfectly commonsensical observation. Dads push us to take risks. Moms put the training wheels on our bike. We need mom's, but not in the military, especially in combat units."
to shut down illegal websites, these measures alone fail to protect the thousands of women harmed even by compliant usage of this drug – or the millions of children killed. To protect vulnerable women and children, we strongly urge the FDA to remove this deadly drug from the U.S. market and exercise its authority under 21 CFR § 2.5, declaring it an “imminent hazard to public health.”
They really want to do that today. It’s clear from Trump’s plan for governing - Project 2025 - that he and his adminstwhich takes aim at restricting or eliminating all abortions, some contraceptives and making it very difficult for millions of American women to get regular reproductive healthcare checkups, by defunding Planned Parenthood.
One of the unintended consequences of the abortion restrictions is showing that pregnancy is dangerous. Pregnancy is dangerous, not abortion.
Abortion happens whether we seek it or not- spontaneously. We OBGyns manage abortions- it’s not just a procedure. We skirt death by acting.
Surgical abortion, medication abortion and antibiotics help us avoid death. We didn’t talk about that a lot- it was private and sad- but now it’s out.
The politicians cracked it all open, and now that we doctors can’t act, we all can see publicly how many pregnancies end in loss (1 in 4)and how many times miscarriage turns lethal when doctors can’t act.
Thank you so much @DrFakeSmile for pointing this fact out . Miscarriage or ‘missed abortions’ - is that the correct term? are sadly a normal part of human pregnancy. It’s the body’s natural way of ending a pregnancy that is incompatible with life. Republican politicians & Supreme Court judges are not doctors but they are playing doctor without the knowledge or the empathy of doctors. And now their anti abortion zealotry is standing the way of saving women’s future fertility and their lives . But tragically zealots aren’t persuaded by facts and so hundreds of American women could pay for the refusal of virulent ant abortion activism before enough Americans demand that laws change . Only massive pressure on GOP politicians from voters will stop this cruelty I fear. U agree?
