'My Baby' Was Murdered By Doctors Who Refused To Give Her An Abortion
Anna Nicole Thurman's mom and others harmed by deadly abortion bans say they will never stop fighting for the loved ones they've lost

“My baby boy Milo suffocated for 94 minutes before taking his last breath after he was born. He didn’t deserve to die like that.” - Deborah Dorbert, Florida mom whose baby had a fatal fetal diagnosis
“My baby didn’t just pass. She was murdered by professionals who took an oath to save lives.” - Shanette Williams, mother of Amber Nicole Thurman, who died of severe sepsis at 28 in a Georgia hospital after doctors delayed a lifesaving D&C procedure following an incomplete abortion.
“ My daughter was born at 32 weeks and she suffered. Her eyes started to bleed and she gasped for air and turned blue in front of our eyes.” Samantha Casiano, Texas mom, whose baby had a fatal fetal diagnosis
“I will be damned if my daughter grows up and gets pregnant and then bleeds to death from a miscarriage in her bathroom like her mother almost did.” Ryan Hamilton, Texas husband whose wife was repeatedly refused a D&C procedure after an incomplete miscarriage
Tears, anger and resolve.
There is no way F##king way that the people terrorized and tortured by merciless Republican abortion bans are going quietly into the night.
They just demonstrated that they are refusing to be bullied into silence by the anti abortion zealots that now control Donald Trump as well as 20 Republican - dominated states that have passed abortion bans.
And as hard as it may have been for many of them to share their painful stories from a stage, they did it anyways - speaking out at an ‘Abortion in America’ conference envisioned by Cecile Richards this past weekend in Austin, Texas.
Richards, the legendary leader of national Planned Parenthood, died tragically from brain cancer in January. But the organization she launched - Abortion in America - lives on and her co-founders Lauren Peterson and Kaitlyn Joshua pulled together this inspiring event deliberately in Cecile’s home state.
Texas was also the very first state in the country to be subjected to a 6 week abortion ban in 2021.
That’s when the Republican lawmakers in the state diabolically passed a ‘bounty’ law which enabled any person in the country to sue anyone in Texas for $10,000 , if they aided or abetted an abortion.
That means the Abortion in America conference gave a well - deserved finger to the Texas state government, just by locating there and bringing together the ‘collateral damage’ of Republican state abortion bans.
Texas Republicans and I’d like to add - all Republicans including childless cat lady - hater JD Vance and sperm donor Elon Musk - don’t care one iota about the hundreds of thousands of innocent victims of these bans - the victims of rape and incest forced to give birth to those babies, the girls and women who’ve fled their states for abortions and the women who have died and almost died because they were denied timely treatment by terrified doctors.
But you know who does care - you do , because you are reading this column and I appreciate that, and so do all the good people at Abortion in America.
WOMEN & BABIES ARE ABORTION BANS’ COLLATERAL DAMAGE
‘Collateral damage’ like Deborah Dorbert tearfully spoke out at the conference about learning at 24 weeks pregnant that the baby boy she was carrying had no kidneys - a condition called Potter Syndrome - and that he had no hope of surviving after birth.
The Florida mom of a young son couldn’t afford to travel out of state for an abortion and was forced to carry baby Milo until 37 weeks, knowing that the baby kicking in her belly was doomed. He died, as she cuddled him in her arms while she and her husband Lee, sang to him and read him a story.
She shared that what has been especially painful for her are the family members, who call themselves ‘pro life’ and “thought there was nothing wrong with what happened to me or my son,” she said.
“They won’t even say his name - Milo - they won’t look outside of their own views to even hear my story.”
Shanette Williams, a mother of four, never imagined that her beautiful daughter Amber Nicole, would lie in a top Atlanta hospital, in excruciating pain for 20 hours, and not be provided with lifesaving treatment.
When she got the call to rush Piedmont Henry Hospital to be by Amber Nicole’s side, she trusted her daughter’s doctors .They “told me that they would give her a procedure that would only take 20 minutes”. Meanwhile Amber Nicole, “ kept telling me, ‘I’m in pain.I’m in pain,” Shanette said.
“I told her, ‘you’re in the best of care. U will be OK.
And why shouldn’t she have thought that. She and Amber Nicole lived in Metropolitan Atlanta, a hub of some of the country’s best hospitals. It was 2022 at the time and with 21st Century medicine available for her daughter, who was already the mother of a 6 year-old son, why would doctors not do everything possible to save her life when her body was being ravaged by the deathly sepsis infection?
But Georgia had enacted a 6 week abortion ban and physicians were terrified that they could go to jail for up to 10 years for performing an abortion.
It was because of Georgia’s new abortion ban that Governor Brian Kemp was “overjoyed” to sign that Amber Nicole, travelled to North Carolina for abortion pills.
The medical assistant who planned to go to nursing school, had become pregnant with twins and knew that she wasn’t going to be able to care for. them.
Unfortunately she became one of the rare women, for whom the pills didn’t complete the abortion and the fetal tissue that was left in her uterus became infected.
Only 32 women’s deaths have been linked to the abortion pill, mifepristone, while 6,000,000 women have safely used them to end a pregnancy since 2000.
Shanette, had no idea when she found her daughter, desperately ill in the hospital, that her doctors were so afraid of violating Georgia’s abortion ban that they delayed evacuating the remains of her fetuses and the infection , out of her uterus, until it was too late.
Her daughter died on the operating table.
I WILL BE THE VOICE OF MY DAUGHTER WHO IS GONE
That’s why Shanette calls her daughters doctors, '“murderers.” Now, she is determined to be her daughter’s voice “ because my daughter isn’t here. I will be her voice until I am frail,’ she vows.
“Who has the right to tell us about our bodies. Who knows our bodies better than we do - a judge, a politician, a man, a husband?”
“My daughter had a right to be here,” she said. “But the doctors made a choice to let her suffer.”
Oh, and Brian Kemp, expressed zero regrets about Amber Nicole’s preventable death and instead lashed out at abortion activists and “so called journalists for creating a culture of fear and confusion”.
You see, Republicans just don’t care that women are dying due to their heartless abortion bans. Kemp hypocritically claimed that “every life is precious”but hasn’t lifted a finger to modify or clarify his state’s ban so doctors won’t fear the state’s 10 year jail term if they provide a D&C procedure to complete a woman’s abortion or miscarriage.
SPEAKING OUT FOR THE BABIES THEY LOST
Neither Texas Republicans nor the right wing Texas Supreme Court give a sh#t either about the collateral damage that their bans have inflicted.
Samantha Casiano was thrilled to be pregnant with her fifth child when she learned about that her baby had a fatal condition called anencephaly, at her 20 week ultrasound.
Anencephaly, is when a baby’s brain and skull don’t form properly in the womb. Samantha didn’t have the resources to travel out of state for an abortion and so was forced to carry her doomed baby girl to term.
Now, the mom of four, is determined to share her experience, in memory of her baby daughter Halo, who died just four hours after birth.
“My daughter deserved mercy and compassion”, Samantha told conference audience members.
But she didn’t get it in Texas. Little Halo , “gives me courage to speak. I felt that it was my duty as a mother, a daughter, to speak out.”
Ryan Hamilton, a Texan, was one of three husbands at the conference, who refuse to shut up after their wives lives were saved by abortions.
Hamilton, who was already the “girl dad” of a 9 month year-old when his wife suffered a miscarriage of their second child.
Over the course of three day Ryan and his wife kept being sent away from hospitals without urgent treatment as she kept bleeding and bleeding because the remains of her fetus hadn’t expelled from her uterus.
“My wife and I desperately needed a D&C when she had an incomplete miscarriage. She almost bled to death in our bathroom,” he told us.”I had to drag my wife’s lifeless body from the bathroom floor ( where she had passed out unconscious) across the living room to the car and rush her to a 4th hospital.”
Now he is hell bent on shaking men into the reality that abortion bans are their problem too. “This is a family thing. I lost a daughter too. My parents lost a grandchild. I find the fact that men aren’t out here advocating for women makes me frustrated and angry. Get off your lazy ass and fight for the women you love.”
Well I know what I am going to do, I’m going to keep getting off my ass and telling you the stories of real people, just like us, whose lives and health have been deliberately put in danger by abortion bans.
There are a sh#t load of Americans who rage on about infringements on their right to buy and carry any type of gun everywhere and their right to never wear a mask anywhere.
But what about the right of American women to the personal liberty and freedom to control over their own bodies. Abortion in America’s story tellers are never going to stop fighting for that.
Thank you for caring readers and please share their stories too so more people understand that abortion bans are deadly and they can affect affect them and the lives of people they love.
Thank you for this powerful story. We need to get it in front of more people!
Thank you for another great story.
Im glad to read someone writing about the babies with fatal malformations suffering as they die. I think the electeds and anti-abortion folks should be forced to watch along with the parents as the child struggles and dies. I wish they would have to witness the dying, and forever be cursed with the memory.
That would stop this shit.
