They don't care because Political Theater is the point. They're obviously not "Pro Life' It's about controlling women and red meat to the base. To withhold basic care in a life-threatening situation, especially with a nonviable embryo/fetus, is malpractice. Legislators have mandated this as part of their theatrical power grab and overthrow of Democracy. Every woman capable of pregnancy is now at risk of death for the absence of basic OB/GYN care that has been legislated by posers.

Completely agree with u. I’m trying to reach more non involved yet women to spread this message that every woman of childbearing age is at risk as will be their daughters.

While they still have access, robust contraception is an imperative here in Idaho

The patriarchy has done their job well. Demonized diminished and erased women’s value. Many women believe this. They continue to erase themselves.

Sadly, I agree - many women have absorbed this and more will, the longer that Trump's Christian Nationalist male supremacy regime goes on for.

Absolutely the right question. We should all be in the streets and at the ballot boxes. What will it take to energize women about the value of their own lives.

Thank you for this important story. The hypocrisy of the Republican party is beyond the pale, so I won't even mention it again. What is needed here is courage. The medical field needs to stand as one to fight this idiocy and protest against these insane laws. Where is the AMA? Where is the press to stand with reason?

Agree with you. It is beyond frustrating that doctors have not united in any way to oppose these multi state attacks on their ability to to practice medicine. If doctors went on strike in abortion ban states, things would change!

As someone who actually takes care of patients I want to ask y’all: if doctors go on strike over abortion who will take care of patients? And who cares if we strike? What old white men care if OBGyn doctors don’t go to work?

And on the mechanics of this idea: how can we doctors unite in opposition, when we are all so fragmented by modern health care economics, and we all have to work?

And tell me what forum do you suggest we use to organize? And who pays the legal fees?

We docs got nothing and no one to help us. We’re all just out here on our own trying to do the right thing by each patient, one patient at a time, the best we can.

The question of why doctors don’t unite to fight back against the abortion laws is very much like saying “why don’t all the journalists unite and fight back against the mainstream media?”

Got it?

Excellent point of course and it probably would have to be your professional organizations which would need to take the lead in organizing a strike or series of rotating strikes of doctors. I agree that journalists would also be far better able to protect themselves and their profession if they united in a major professional protest tho if we all stopped writing that would be counterproductive. What would have been effective is if the White House correspondents all refused to cover Trump's White House press conferences in solidarity with AP, which he banned from attending. Trump craves the spotlight and attention. if all the press but fawning right wing outlets refused to cover his press conferences I'm sure he would be forced to reinstate AP. But sadly, this didn't happen and the press gave away their own power. As Trump continues to destroy our democracy, those of us who still want to live in a free country will be forced to hold national strikes and massive protests just as other countries like the Czech Republic and South Korea did successfully. For now, I'll be out for the June 14th national No Kings protest in my city. Hope you and all my other readers will be able to do as well. THX for your thoughtful comment.
